La Soupe has a well-established program of rescuing prepared overages from food retailers and wholesalers, transforming these overages into made from scratch meals and soupes, then delivering directly to agencies that feed individuals experiencing food insecurity. Since its inception in 2014, La Soupe has rescued over 3,000,000 pounds of food and has shared over 2,000,000 servings with people in the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky community.
We are seeking a full time Director of Finance to work closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Board Chair to run day-to-day fiscal and strategic efforts to ensure the financial strength and viability of the organization. The Director of Finance will direct and oversee the financial activities of La Soupe, direct the preparation of financial reports and summaries, and create forecasts predicting future growth.
With a staff of 30 employees, La Soupe is currently executing an annual operating budget of $1.5 million. The Director of Finance fully participates in all accounting, budgetary and financial operational support, serving as an active member of the Executive Management Team helping to develop and implement the organization’s vision and mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively manages bookkeeper in the day-to-day accounting for accounts payable, invoicing, point of sale (POS) activity, and donor fundraising efforts, including ensuring proper classification for each entry.
- Develop annual budgets by program/cost center for current and new/proposed/expanded programs when applicable.
- Reconcile all month-end reporting systems, including Quickbooks, donor software (Little Green Light), POS system (Toast), Paypal, Paycor.
- Analyze monthly financial results versus program/cost center budgets.
- Present financial results and issues to the COO, Board Chair and Board of Directors (when necessary).
- Work closely with Program Directors to address budget questions and interpret results.
- In particular, assist the Development Director with timely reports to fulfill requirements for foundation and government grant reporting.
- Prepare financial reporting requested for the COO, Board, donor, foundation and government funding.
- Participate as financial representative on internal and external teams formed to study new programs or operating methods.
- Act as the main contact for financial services relationships.
- Develop, strengthen and manage accounting control systems to ensure the accurate and timely production of accounting information and financial reports.
- Monitor changes in legal, regulatory and administrative environments and implement changes in procedures as needed to maintain compliance while maximizing operational and financial results.
- Annual review of La Soupe’s liability insurance program with insurance brokers, including ongoing risk analysis.
- Create, implement, and manage procedures for an annual financial audit, and serve as La Soupe’s primary liaison with the auditor to ensure the audit is completed smoothly and in a timely manner.
- Create, implement, and manage procedures for bank reserves (Endowment/quasi-endowment/designated funds/etc.).
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
Education and Experience:
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
- Masters degree in Business Administration, Accounting or Finance preferred.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is a plus.
- Three to five years of accounting or fiscal management experience with an organization, preferably with a non-profit organization.
- Managed monthly accounting cycle, producing financial statements.
- Experience with IRS 990, donor reporting, and multi-year donor pledges a plus.
Knowledge Of:
- General accounting and financial reporting procedures in accordance with the State of Ohio.
- Employee benefits, including the management of health care and retirement plans.
- General office, accounting and payroll software, particularly Microsoft Office Suite, Google Docs Editors Suite, Paycor and Quickbooks.
Ability To:
- Hire and manage a bookkeeper, execute performance evaluations and improvement plans when necessary.
- Analyze and solve problems effectively and efficiently.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Work well with, and be responsive to the needs of internal and external customers, including La Soupe Program Directors and Board of Directors, funding sources, other provider organizations.
- Manage priorities effectively to meet deadlines and demonstrate multitasking skills.
- Assimilate new information and technology.
- Foster and cultivate business opportunities and partnerships.
Other:
- Must be highly ethical, self-motivated, dependable and reliable, detail oriented, able to interface easily with staff, other senior management personnel and funders.
- Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing stairs, carrying up to 20 pound objects and possessing the dexterity and vision to operate office computers and equipment.
